Q: How is it that totalitarianism, in its pure form is viewed as an unwilling governing system of of the people, however by those that are governed by it, it is accepted, both openly and freely?
A: "While in the totalitarian states this status [Gleichschaltung] of propaganda gives it a unique power over the minds of the people, the peculiar moral effects arise not from the technique but from the object and scope of totalitarian propaganda. If it could be confined to indoctrinating the people with the whole system of values toward which the social effort is directed, propaganda would present merely a particular manifestation of the characteristic features of collectivist morals which we have already considered."(Hayek, p.169). When someone's perceptive reality is exposed to only one ideal, that is the standard to all other comparisons.
