"...Yet it is through positions like these that the road to the highest positions in the totalitarian state leads. It is only too true when a distinguished American economist concludes froma similar belief enumeration of the duties of the authorities of a collectivist state that they would have to do these things whether they wanted to or not:and the probablity of the people in power being individuals who would dislike the possesion and exercise of power is on a level with the probability tha an extremely tender-hearted person would get the job of whipping-master in a slave plantation...." p.167
Q/A: So in reality no leader whether in totalitarian society or democratic society necessarily agrees with views of their position, they just conform to their status, well this is true in any governement or competitive or planned economy, so even if you obtain the higher or highest position its still not humanitarian and your personal values are still changed and to a higher degree. So why do you go for the highest position if it disagrees with your values well everybody does no matter what type of society why because the whole point of a society is rank is to be the best most powerful and highest. So its not surprsing that totaltarian governmens conform your thinking because well every government does and once you have the highest status you then start conforming people.
