Q: What role reversal occurred between Germany and England? What caused this and what credited it?
A: At one time, English philosophy had spread outward until it seemed that it could no longer spread and then this flow reversed. Eventually England became "an importer of ideas" (25). Germany then became the hub of ideologies, with people like Hegel, Marx, List, Schmoller, Sombart, and Mannheim spreading socialism, "organization", and "planning" (25). Germans also became very influential because they had accrued a respected standing from previous philosophers and scientists (26). To Germany, everything west of the Rhine became "Western" civilization, and since they were exporting instead of importing ideas, they began to look down upon "Western" views, and thusly exported this to "Western" civilization, causing its own citizens to in turn do the same.
