Q: What is the difference between "competitive" and "directed" economies?
A: In a competitive economy, if the price of an item is much too high one place, we can go somewhere else to find a cost more suited to our needs and wants. Everyone wants the same "end" but may go about it my a different "mean" (103). However, in a directed economy, the "authority" supervises and controls the flow of the economy so that some ends are realized and others are not (i.e. if anyone has read 1984, where the main character was not allowed to have a journal because the government thought they could cause rebellion, and therefore banned the production and purchasing of journals) (103). Personally, I'd like to have the competitive economy.
