Kelsey Marsh: Ch. 7

"If all rewards, instead of being offered in money, were offered in the form of public distinctions or privileges, positions of power over other men, or better housing or btter food, opportunities for travel or education, this would merely mean that the recipient would no longer be allowed to choose and that whoever fixed the reward determined not only its size but also the particular form in which it should be enjoyed"(99).

Q: When currency was not available in countries and people were forced to trade goods for services and vice versa was one of the reasons for creating currencies because they wanted to have the freedom to choose what public distinctions they wanted to have?

A: I believe that currency was created so that the people of the countries could do what they wanted with their work more freely. With the currencies people could choose what they did with their labor instead of being forced to do what the public destinction restricted them to do. with these new found freedoms the people of the country have new found rights they feel they havew deserved for a while. the creation of this currency also creates an economy to balance, creating an overall better country for them to live in.
